Your Planned Indulgences Should Be Mind-Blowingly Good

Your Planned Indulgences Should Be Mind-Blowingly Good

As a burnout mom, constantly juggling work, family, and personal responsibilities, it’s easy to feel like indulgences are off-limits. But let me remind you: you deserve joy, too. Nourishing your body doesn’t mean depriving yourself—it means making intentional choices that support both your physical and mental well-being.

I call this strategy “planned indulgences”, and trust me, it can be a game-changer. When you finally take a break, that indulgence should be worth it—mind-blowingly good.

As a woman balancing a busy life—whether you're early postpartum or managing life with older kids—it's easy to feel like indulgences are off-limits. But I’m here to tell you: it’s okay to enjoy your favorites, as long as you plan for it.

I’ve talked about how certain foods, like cakes and cookies, can impact our health and mind, especially when consumed too frequently. But that doesn’t mean you need to deprive yourself entirely. Life is too short not to enjoy the occasional treat. I call this strategy “planned indulgences”—and trust me, it can be a game-changer for both your physical health and mental well-being.

Treat Your Diet Like Your Checkbook

Think of your food like a budget. If you're mindful about what you eat most of the time, it gives you room to splurge occasionally without derailing your wellness goals. Imagine you’re budgeting for the month. If you spend a little extra on a new pair of shoes, you might have to adjust your other expenses. The same goes for your food choices.

Does this mean depriving yourself? Absolutely not! Instead, plan ahead and enjoy those indulgences when they truly satisfy you. It could be a burger and fries, a gooey chocolate dessert, or your favorite slice of cake. The key is to make sure it’s mind-blowingly good—not just a mediocre snack that leaves you feeling unsatisfied.

The Power of Mind-Blowing Indulgences

This strategy works, and I’ve seen it in action. For example, I recently had a planned indulgence—a burger and fries at a fancy hotel in Las Vegas. But when the burger arrived, it wasn’t the heavenly experience I had in mind. It wasn’t juicy, it wasn’t cooked right, and it certainly wasn’t worth the calories. So, I sent it back! I refuse to waste calories on food that doesn’t wow me. And guess what? Even after a week of dining out every day, I only gained 1 pound—nothing more than normal fluctuation!

The moral here is: when your indulgence isn’t a “wow” moment, don’t settle. Send it back, walk away, and save those precious calories for something that truly satisfies you.

Planning for Indulgence, Without the Guilt

I get it—especially as a mom, whether your kids are toddlers or growing up, the temptation to indulge can sometimes feel like you’re slipping away from your health goals. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Enjoy those treats, but make them count. If it’s a piece of chocolate cake or a margarita, let it be something that fills you with joy and pleasure, not regret. Because at the end of the day, your health journey is about balance—not perfection.

What are your favorite indulgences? Maybe it's a piece of chocolate cake, a sweet pastry, or even a drink you enjoy after a long day of chasing after your little ones (or big ones!). Share what makes your indulgence mind-blowing, and remember—you're allowed to enjoy life without guilt! ❤️

By focusing on quality and savoring those moments, you can reclaim your health and find joy in both your food and your life. Whether you’re managing a postpartum body or staying active with your kids, planned indulgences can be the perfect balance of enjoying life while staying committed to your wellness. Keep nourishing yourself with love, and let your indulgences be worth it!
