Yes, Virginia, There is Life After Weight Loss!

As a postpartum mom, the journey to reclaiming your health after pregnancy can feel overwhelming—especially when it comes to losing weight and keeping it off. You may have reached your goal weight, but maintaining it is a whole different challenge. In fact, only 5 out of 100 people who lose weight actually keep it off long-term! But don’t worry—you are not alone, and with the right approach, long-term success is absolutely possible.

I always tell my clients: maintenance starts now. It’s not about going back to old habits but embracing a healthier, happier life—one where you feel strong, confident, and in control.

Here are some tried-and-true tips to help you maintain your weight loss while continuing to build strength and confidence in your postpartum journey.

As postpartum moms, it can feel like the journey toward reclaiming our health after pregnancy is never-ending, especially when it comes to weight loss and maintaining those gains. Studies show that while many of us reach our goal weight, keeping it off is a whole different challenge. In fact, 5 out of 100 people who reach their goal weight actually stay there. Yep, it’s tough! But don’t worry—I'm here to remind you that with a solid plan, long-term success is possible.

I always tell my clients that it’s never too early to think about maintenance. In fact, I design my plans with maintenance in mind, so when you hit your goal, it feels less like a dramatic shift and more like a natural progression. Think of it as a healthier, happier life, with more balance and freedom (yes, that means eating a bit more!).

Here are some tried-and-true tips for maintaining your weight loss and finding true wellness that lasts:

Tip #1: Get Rid of Your "Fat" Clothes—Immediately!

As a mom juggling so many things, it's easy to fall into the trap of keeping old clothes "just in case." But here's the thing—those clothes are a mental safety net. By keeping them, you're giving yourself an excuse to go back to old habits. Don’t let those clothes hold you back from your new, healthier self. If they start getting too big, donate them or alter them—there’s no turning back now!

If your clothes start to feel too tight, let them remind you that it’s time to refocus. That small, subtle discomfort is a wake-up call to realign with your healthy habits, which brings me to the next point.

Tip #2: Plan Your Indulgences

Life as a mom, especially a postpartum mom, means balancing so many different responsibilities. It’s easy to get caught up in indulging in little things here and there, but that won’t help in the long term. Instead, plan your indulgences! Whether it’s a special treat once a week or a family dinner out, plan ahead so it doesn't become an everyday habit. This helps you enjoy the things you love while keeping your overall health and goals in check.

Tip #3: Schedule Your Exercise

I get it—finding time to exercise as a busy mom can be hard! But the truth is, if you don’t schedule it, it probably won’t happen. If you get an unexpected 30-minute window, use it wisely! You might be tempted to scroll through social media or catch up on your favorite show, but taking those few minutes to move your body, even with a quick walk or a few stretches, will do wonders for your energy and long-term health.

Tip #4: Make Monday-Friday Your Healthiest Days

Weekends are meant for relaxation, but that doesn’t mean you should go overboard! As a mom, it’s important to create a balance that works for you. Make your weekdays the healthiest days—nourish your body with balanced meals, get your workouts in, and use the weekend to enjoy special moments (and maybe a mimosa with friends). It’s about finding a rhythm that’s sustainable for you and your family.

Tip #5: Surround Yourself with Healthy Influences

As a mom, your environment and the people you spend time with can make all the difference in your health journey. If you find that you’re the healthiest one in your circle, it might be time to introduce some new, health-focused friends into the mix. Having supportive, like-minded individuals who value wellness as much as you do can help keep you motivated. Plus, you can all learn and grow together!

By focusing on the right mindset, balance, and support system, you can maintain the healthy changes you've made after losing weight. And remember, it's not just about looking good—it's about feeling your best and thriving as the strong, amazing mom that you are.

You’ve got this, mama! Reclaiming your health and wellness is a journey, but one that’s worth every step.
