Mama, I see you. The exhaustion runs deep—whether from sleepless nights, long workdays, or the relentless demands of caring for your little ones. It’s no wonder your own health often takes a backseat. When you're running on fumes, the idea of "getting back on track" can feel like another impossible task.
This is Part 4 of a four-part series where I’m sharing my personal experience with setbacks and what I’ve learned about reclaiming my health. If you missed Part 3, you can catch up on it. Just know this: even when you feel like you’ve fallen far behind, you are never too far gone to take one small step forward.
For postpartum moms navigating the challenges of leaky bladders, persistent pain, and weak core strength, falling off the health wagon can feel especially overwhelming. Whether it's because life gets busy, you're balancing work and family, or you're just plain exhausted, you're not alone. This final installment of my series is here to remind you that it's okay to stumble—and that getting back on track is always possible.
Keep Yourself Moving, Even in Small Ways
During times of stress or when you're feeling overwhelmed, you may not have the energy for your usual workouts. It's important to remember that movement doesn’t have to be intense to be effective, especially when you're recovering from pregnancy and childbirth.
Rather than focusing on a perfect routine, try starting with small steps—literally! Set a timer to remind yourself to stand up every 90 minutes. Whether it’s taking a short walk around your home or doing a few gentle stretches, every little bit counts. Even five minutes of light movement, like walking upstairs or playing with your toddler, can help your body regain strength and flexibility. Your pelvic floor, core, and overall energy will thank you for it.
[Tweet "Taking movement breaks is really important, even if it’s not formal exercise."]
Keep Yourself Centered
It’s easy to feel like you have to be “all in” or “all out,” especially when juggling the demands of family life and recovery. As a busy mom, you might feel pressure to hit the gym every day or follow a perfect routine, but life doesn’t always work that way—and that’s okay.
Instead of stressing about missing your usual practice, try breaking things down. A short, 6-minute meditation or deep breathing exercise can work wonders for your stress levels and help keep you grounded. It's about progress, not perfection. Celebrate the small moments of self-care, whether that’s a few minutes of mindfulness or simply prioritizing rest over your to-do list.
All Success is Not Created Equal
Success is not just about hitting your weight loss or fitness goals. For postpartum moms, success is about feeling good in your body again—reclaiming your strength, easing your pain, and living in alignment with your values. It might look different than it did before, but that doesn't make it any less meaningful.
If you’ve fallen off the wagon, be kind to yourself. Acknowledge what’s been difficult, and then take one small step towards regaining control. Whether it’s moving your body a little, prioritizing your sleep, or simply being gentle with your expectations, every step forward is a victory.
Remember, healthy living isn't about perfection; it’s about consistently choosing to take care of yourself, even in the toughest moments. You've got this!
