For Moms on the Journey to Health and Wellness
As a busy mom, your to-do list never seems to end. Between work, kids, errands, and the hundred little things that pop up daily, taking care of yourself can easily slip to the bottom of the list. Maybe you’ve been skipping workouts, grabbing quick (but not-so-healthy) meals, or just feeling too exhausted to focus on your own well-being. If you’ve been struggling to stay consistent with your health, I want you to know—you’re not alone.
In this four-part series, I’m sharing my personal experience of falling off the wagon—because, yes, even as a health coach, I go through it too! The good news? You don’t have to be perfect to move forward. Let’s talk about what happens when life gets overwhelming and how you can get back on track.
Hey, mama, I get it—sometimes life just takes over, and we end up feeling like we've lost our balance. This post is part of a four-part series where I’m sharing my personal story of falling off the wagon, especially when things get overwhelming. Trust me, even as a health coach, I’m not immune to this! You don’t have to be perfect to move forward, and I’m here to remind you that it’s okay to stumble, as long as you get back on track.
Life Got in the Way
A lot of us juggle many things at once—taking care of kids, running the household, and trying to care for ourselves. Well, recently, I hit a bump in the road and gained 6 pounds. It happens! Between family, work, and other commitments, my health took a backseat. I know many of you are balancing similar struggles. Maybe you’ve been missing your exercise routines or finding it hard to make time for sleep because you're taking care of everyone else.
When life gets busy, it’s easy to forget about your body’s needs. As a busy mom, it's tough to prioritize yourself when there’s so much else going on. I felt my back aching, my workouts shortened, and my usual walk for peace of mind slipped away.
Hello, Self-Preservation Mode
When you’re overwhelmed—whether it’s from work, family, or trying to care for your body post-baby—it’s easy to fall into self-preservation mode. For me, this meant asking: do I work out, or do I rest? Sleep always won over, and I realized how important it is for you to rest. Because without proper sleep, I found myself constantly hungry and craving junk food. Sound familiar?
When your body is tired or stressed, your cravings can kick into high gear, especially if you’re recovering from childbirth or managing the persistent pain of postpartum healing. It’s so easy to turn to foods that make you feel better in the moment but might not serve your long-term health.
Get Back on the Healthy Train
One of the most important things that helped me prevent this from spiraling further was a tough, but necessary, decision. I’m going to share it with you—throw out the fat clothes. Yes, you read that right. I made the choice not to buy any new clothes to fit my 6-pound weight gain. I had to face the reality and get back to making better choices, or I’d be stuck in a place where I felt uncomfortable and unhappy with my body.
For you, mama, the focus isn’t just about weight—it’s about getting back to a place where you feel strong, energized, and confident in your body. Start with small, manageable steps. Embrace what feels good, and remember that reclaiming your health, especially after having children, takes time, patience, and consistency.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of this series next week. Let’s continue this journey together, one step at a time.
