I’m a Great Mom, but Why Am I Not Happy with Myself?

I’m a Great Mom, but Why Am I Not Happy with Myself?

As a burnout mom, you push through exhaustion every single day, holding everything together for your family, your job, and your home. You do so much, yet deep down, there’s this nagging feeling—you’re not as happy as you thought you’d be. You love your kids fiercely, but when was the last time you truly felt good about yourself? If this resonates with you, know that you're not alone. Burnout isn't a sign of failure; it’s a sign that you’ve been giving everything to everyone—except yourself.

Does this sound familiar? “I’m doing my best as a mom, wife, and employee, but deep down, I don’t feel proud of myself.” If you’re nodding along, know this: you’re not alone, and there’s nothing wrong with you.

As a mom, you give so much of yourself to others—your kids, your partner, your job. But where are you on your list of priorities? If you’ve been putting your needs last, let’s change that, starting now.

Sarah’s Story: A Common Struggle

Take Sarah, for example. She’s a mom of four-year-old twins and has a demanding career. When we talked about her challenges, she admitted she only eats once a day because she’s so busy.

I gently asked her, “Sarah, would you ever feed your kids just once a day?”
Her quick response: “Of course not!”

So, why is it okay to treat herself differently? The truth is, it’s not. Moms like Sarah—and you—deserve the same love and care you give to everyone else.

Treat Yourself Like Your Best Friend

Would you ever say harsh, negative things to your best friend? Probably not. Yet, it’s easy to criticize ourselves when we feel we’re falling short. It’s time to flip the script. Start treating yourself like you would your best friend—with compassion, kindness, and support.

Your 30-Minute Challenge

You can’t pour from an empty cup. That’s why I challenge you to set aside 30 minutes every day just for you.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Do a few gentle core-strengthening exercises.

  • Practice deep breathing or mindfulness to ease tension and reconnect with yourself.

  • Journal about your small wins or things you’re grateful for.

  • Take a walk, read a book, or simply rest.

These moments of self-care aren’t selfish—they’re essential. When you take this time for yourself, you’ll feel more energized, fulfilled, and ready to show up as the amazing mom, partner, and person you already are.

Small Steps, Big Wins

When you prioritize your well-being, you’re not only taking care of yourself—you’re setting a powerful example for your children. They’ll see a mom who values her health and happiness, and they’ll learn to do the same for themselves.

Is 30 minutes a day too much to ask to feel happier, stronger, and more like you? Absolutely not. You’re worth every minute.
