5 Reasons Why Oprah Shouldn’t Marry Weight Watchers: A Healthier Approach for Postpartum Moms

Oprah’s recent partnership with Weight Watchers has certainly raised eyebrows, and I can’t help but share my thoughts. 

Postpartum moms deserve more than Weight Watchers' points system. 

While I respect Oprah and the inspiration she offers, I’m concerned that the approach Weight Watchers promotes might not be the most sustainable or supportive for women, particularly postpartum moms who are facing unique challenges.

Here are 5 reasons why I believe postpartum women deserve a more holistic and nurturing approach to health than what Weight Watchers offers:

1. Tracking and Logging Is Tedious (And Not Always Helpful)

As postpartum moms, you’re already juggling so much—caring for your little one, managing daily life, and trying to reclaim your health. Spending hours tracking calories and logging every bite of food isn't practical or sustainable. Sure, understanding what you eat is important, but there's a better way. Rather than focusing on points and restrictive plans, embrace a gentle approach to nourishment, listening to your body’s natural cues, and fueling it with nutrient-dense, whole foods that support your healing and energy needs.

2. Weight Watchers Doesn’t Teach Healthy Habits (or Long-Term Solutions)

It’s easy to get caught up in the points game, but lasting health requires a deeper understanding of how nutrition, exercise, and self-care all come together. Postpartum moms need to create habits that promote wellness—not just weight loss. 3. Processed Foods Don’t Serve Your Body’s Needs

When it comes to your health as a mom, the goal is to nourish your body with whole, nutrient-rich foods that help your healing process and restore your energy. Fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats are far more effective than pre-packaged meals.

4. Weight Watchers Focuses Too Much on Food (Without Addressing the Root Cause)

If you’ve experienced persistent pain, leaky bladder, or core weakness postpartum, you know that weight loss isn’t just about food—it’s about healing your body, mind, and soul. The truth is, the journey to feeling better begins in the heart and mind. Asking yourself why you’re struggling with health issues is just as important as addressing your diet. Especially for postpartum women, it’s important to be mindful of how the foods you eat support your recovery and pelvic health. Rather than focusing solely on calorie-counting or points, I encourage you to focus on whole foods that offer real nourishment for your body.

 


 

While I wish Oprah and Weight Watchers well, I believe there’s a better, more sustainable way to support postpartum health. You deserve a health journey that values the full picture of your well-being, including physical, emotional, and nutritional care.

As a postpartum mom myself, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to find the right balance. But remember, you’re not alone. There is always hope, and with the right support, you can reclaim your pelvic health, rebuild your core strength, and feel confident in your own body once again.
